OCTOBER 2006

After taking a month off from the newsletter, to take care of projects, I am back with some tips for PowerPoint. Just a reminder, even freelancers need a vacation. So from November 30th through December 17th I will be on vacation. If you have anything coming up that will be due on or around that time please let me know so we can schedule it.

Thanks!
Kim Adams, President, Tiger Studios, Inc.

Ask Tiger Studios

Q: Should I use a dark background or a white background for my presentation?

A: If you are presenting in a dark room, make the background black. If you are presenting in a lite room, use white. This will give your audience the chance to read your text easily.

5 Tips For A Better Presentation

At one time or another all of us have watched a PowerPoint presentation. Do you remember the presentations you liked? How about the ones you did not like? Here are a few tips for those of you who have to create presentations. Maybe some of these ideas will make your presentation memorable — in a good way.

Tip 1: Text

Don't feel the need to fill up the whole slide with text. A lot of text makes it very hard for the audience to read. Make it light on text and big on size.

Tip 2: Graphics

Graphics in your presentation are acceptable. Make them good quality, not too complex and nice, but use them sparingly and where it might make sense.

Tip 3: Page Animation

Just like graphics, use the page animation feature wisely. Use 1 or 2 types of animation for adding text to the page or going from slide to slide. Remember, just because Microsoft added lots different types of animations does not mean you need to use them all within one presentation.

Tip 4: Color

Just like good design, text has to be legible. If you are using a black background, use white text; if you are using a white background, use dark or black text. Your text needs to be readable by the audience member way in the back row.

Tip 5: Your Presentation

Use the PowerPoint as an aid. Don't read what is on the slide verbatim but instead use it to highlight your speech.
