Tiger Studios Newsletter: September 2008 IssueHow quickly time goes by. Already we are at the end of commercial summer and people are looking forward to winter skiing. Me? I am fighting it all the way. I am going to enjoy whatever hot weather is left in this year. This month I thought I would continue the discussion started in the last newsletter. Many of the same principals apply to both print and online advertising.
Enjoy! Making the Most of Your Online AdsThe purpose of your online advertising is to get viewers to go to your web site and either complete a task, such as signing up for your monthly newsletter or purchase products. If you are going to pay for any kind of advertising you want to make sure you get the most for your money. Catch the Viewers EyeWhen creating advertising banners for the web make sure you follow the same principals as you would for print ads. Make sure they are appealing and eye catching. Usually you are competing next to other ads for a viewers attention. Also, banner ads tend to be small. Sometimes only 150 pixels wide by 60 high, so make your ad memorable. Get the SpecificsMake sure you get the specs for your online banner advertising from the web site it is going to be displayed on. Get the banner size, in pixels, that you are paying for and what file types are allowed. Find out if they will accept animated banners and if so do they allow for Flash SWF or animated GIF files. Take Advantage of AnimationIf the web site you are advertising on allows for animated banners take advantage of it. This will allow you to place more text on your ad as the animation runs. Make sure you are not too verbose and the animation does not run too fast. You want viewers to see your ad and ultimately go to your web site. Tease them with the ad copy so they want to click and read more. Make Quality AdsFinally, make sure the quality of the advertisement is good. Sometimes graphics and photos saved in a GIF format become pixelated and the colors are off. Make sure text is legible, no red text on black backgrounds or very small text. Check the animation in an Internet browser to make sure it flows well and all of the elements are in the banner.
