SEPTEMBER 2005

In case you did not get the notice yet, I will be out of the office from Wednesday, Oct. 12th through Wednesday, Oct. 19th. Because of that there will be no newsletter for October, so look forward to latest installment in November.

Enjoy!

Ask Tiger Studios

Q: Are some colors better than others for ecommerce sites?

A: Deep blue is a very good choice for an ecommerce site because studies have shown that blue on a web site means the company is reliable, trustworthy and loyal. Of course, the company's best practices in handling their customers and their orders will show if this is true or not.

Color Psychology — What Colors Should You Use for Your Web Site

Not all colors are created equal. Some web sites will benefit from the right color choices to match their audiences and their goals. Here are just a few examples of some colors that I often use in my client's web site designs.

Blue
Blue is a favorite color for web site users and product consumers so it's a great choice for ecommerce sites (see Q&A section). The color blue is also an appetite suppressant so don't use too much blue if you are trying to sell food or food services on your web site.

Orange
Orange is a very energetic color, which is why you see this color on a lot of logos. It also stimulates appetites so don't use this color if you are selling diet plans.

Black
A great strong color for contrast, this color can also gives a rich or sinful feel to the design.

Red
Red is an exciting warm color that is a real attention grabber — hence the reason why STOP signs are in red. Since red also means danger this would be a very bad color to use for a financial web site.

Yellow
A happy sunny color but a word of caution on using too much yellow, it can cause eye irritation. Not a good thing if you want people to spend time on your web site.

Green
A conservative color that represents money and implies wealth. This color is great for a financial web site but probably not the best choice for a non-profit web site.
