Tiger Studios is now on Twitter. Since all you wonderful people keep me so busy there will not be many updates going on like other accounts, but I will use it to give updates on projects, articles and events. Maybe a little personal stuff. Don't know yet.

Is Your Web Site Useful?

You just redesigned your site and fully optimized it for the search engines but business is still the same. Slow. Just having your site on page one in the search results is not always enough to improve business. And in some cases, having a lot of visitors is not enough either. You can have thousands of visitors to your site each month but if they don't buy your product or call you with projects your web site is not working for you.

Ask yourself some questions. What do you want your users to do when they are on your site? What do they need to do to improve your business? Do you want them to fill out your contact form? Buy a product? Read a PDF? The end result is different for each business so first decide what it is you want out of your web site. Then you can use reports to analyze if your SEO is working.

Reporting and Google Analytics Can Help

Most hosting companies have some kind of reporting that will show you how many visitors a week/month come to your site, what pages they went to the most and what keywords they used. For more in-depth information I like to use Google Analytics. It gives you a lot more information including the path your visitors take from page to page and how long they were on a page. All for free.

The best part about Google Analytics is that you can map your Goals and see if they are working. A Goal would be a downloaded PDF, a form that is filled out, or a product that is purchased. With this reporting you can see what works and what does not. You can track if making small changes to the SEO and/or the design affect the goal outcome. You don't have to make guesses for what works anymore.
