MAY 2006

There are some great stories behind the design projects that I have done through the years. Because of that, I thought I would highlight a few of those stories as I think that a lot of you would be interested in the how and why of some of my projects. The below case study is just one of several stories that will show up in the coming months.

Enjoy!

Ask Tiger Studios

Q: Do I need to change my web site's design ever other year or so?

A: Not necessarily. If you like the current design you have then you can revamp it with new photos and color while keeping the basic style and layout the same. But if the design is not working for you or you do not have room to add information that you want, a complete redesign might be in your future.

When Web Sites Grow Up

Anatomy of a Web Site Redesign

Your first business web site is always special. Content was written, a design put developed, and a web site was created. It was new, it was great, and it was necessary to be taken seriously in this business age. But as time moved on you realized that the site needs more information, the design does not convey the current direction of your business or you are just not getting enough business through the site.

Case Study

Let's use the newly redesigned PeakUniques.com web site as our example. The first version of their web site and logo were good. The site was getting traffic and products were selling. So why redesign the logo and the web site if things were going well?

The business was growing up. The owners wanted to create a more mature and sophisticated look — and since the then current pink and lime green color scheme had a more teenager feel than adult feel something had to change. They wanted a better conversion rate for their site, and they wanted the site to be more user friendly.

What We Did

This was not a full scale redesign, but an upgrade. It was like watching a web site grow up. First we revised the logo to look more grown up but still kept the fun feel that they had with the first logo. Once the logo and color scheme were resolved the web site needed to change to match the new grown up logo. The basic layout stayed the same but graphics, colors and some functionality changed for a better user experience.

The Result

The owners of PeakUniques.com are very happy with the final result. The style is more in keeping with the high-end products that they sell, and business is better than ever.
