Why Good Design is Good Business

Is your company large or small? As long as you offer quality products or on-time services, have good customer service, and project the right image, it does not matter if you are a business of 1 or 1000.

What is the right image for your business? Let's use an example. If you go to a meeting you usually dress in nice business attire. Clean, pressed, professional clothes, not jeans and a ratty tee shirt — I hope. If you are advertising your web site, or handing brochures out to clients, would you really want to show them the "jeans" version of your company? Show them the "business attire" side.

A poorly designed web site or brochure could cost you potential clients and revenue. You always want to project a professional look and feel in all aspects of your business including the marketing and collateral. If your brochure is overly filled with content and poor quality photos, potential clients may not look to you as a serious vendor. If your web site is slow to download, has old content, is hard to read, or even worse, hard to navigate, potential clients will not accept you as a legitimate business and move on to use your competitor.

Consider the print collateral you hand out to clients and the web site that you many not have looked at in the last year (or two). Do these items truly represent the image you want to show the world and the vast number of potential clients you want beating down your door?
