Tiger Studios is a sole-proprietorship owned by Kim Adams and has been providing creative web design, web development and marketing materials for businesses since 1999. But don’t let the number of employees fool you. Being a one-person operation is a benefit to businesses of all sizes.
Being small means being nimble, flexible and quick in completing your projects in a timely manner. Personalized and individual service means you get what you need. Plus, having the skill set of both a web designer and a web developer means you get your web site project done by one person, not two or three. That saves you time and your money.
It All Started With A Cat
I took the leap in February of 1999 and quit a paying job for the not so reliable business of freelancing. My goal was to become a virtual web & graphic design company for my clients, providing a variety of web design and development services and graphic design services. I wanted to make it easier, more efficient and cost effective for a business to work with one contact for all their online and offline projects.
Since things quickly worked out with freelancing I decided to become a real business and businesses need names. Until this point I had just used my name. A previous boss taught me that you should pick a business name that was not industry specific. So during a long walk while I brainstormed ideas, Tiger Studios was created. Named after my cat Tiger Lilly.
Who’s Doing Your Work?
My first love is design—web design, brochure design, email design, even interior design, although I limit that to my own office and home. I am very skilled in hand coding sites in HTML and CSS and have some background in programming languages such as JAVA, Cold Fusion, ASP and PHP.
I taught myself how to code web sites as soon as the web started to get noticed in the mid-90′s. I think hand coding makes for a better understanding of how a web page is built and functions, as well as cleaner code and a faster loading page.
One of my favorite things to do is to see how far I can customize content management and eCommerce systems. WordPress is one of the best CMS’s for customization. Anything you want to do style wise can be done. Even the most resistant system will allow for some design customization to match your existing web site. You just need to know the tricks to get the job done.
I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Communication Art and Design’s program with a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Media. There I learned to create multimedia productions, video and virtual reality. Not long after graduating in 1994 the web started to gain traction and I was hooked on this new media that could be changed frequently without having to reprint brochures or CD’s.
